ANIL MADHAV DAVE JOINS AS INDIA ' S NEW ENVIRONMENT MINISTER
Mr Anil Madhav Dave, Member of Parliament representing Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha since 2009, took oath on July 05 as Minister of State at the Rashtrapati Bhavan( President ' s House). Mr Dave has been allocated the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change( Independent Charge) by the Prime Minister of India.
Best known as a social worker and engaged currently with the conservation of the Narmada river, Mr Dave has been a member of the Committee on Water Resources, member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. From March 2010 to June 2010, he has also been a member of the Parliamentary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change.
Mr Dave has been known as a grassroot worker with a huge connect with rural settings. His huge experience can come handy as far as overall handling of the ministry is concerned. It would be interesting to know what the new environment minister thinks about genetically modified crops and their regulations. Would he take a decisive call on many controversial issues or prefers to keep them in cold storage like his predecessor, is a big question which the industry might be thinking of at this juncture.
On the personal front, as an author, Mr Dave has written several books both in English and Hindi. Prominent among English is ' Beyond
Copenhagen '. ' Srajan Se Visarjan Tak ', ' Chandra Shekhar Azad ', ' Sambhal Ke Rahna Ghar Mein Chhupe Hue Gaddaro Se ' and ' Shatabdi Ke Paanch Kale Panne ' are some of his books written in Hindi.
DR N SENTHIL RECEIVES 2016 BEST RESEARCHER AWARD
At the 46th Foundation Day celebrations of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Dr N Senthil, Project Director, Centre of Innovation, AC & RI, Madurai, and
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, received the Best Researcher Award for the year 2016.
Dr Senthil was bestowed with this award for his outstanding contribution to agricultural research, particularly on millets. He was involved in the development of several small millet varieties and wheat varieties suitable for cultivation in Tamil Nadu. He has the expertise and is actively involved in the development of maize varieties though marker assisted breeding for specialty traits like beta carotene.
As a plant breeder, Dr Senthil has been involved in millet breeding program for over a decade and his research has led to the development of high yielding minor millet varieties and their release for commercial cultivation to the farmers.
As the Head of the department of Biotechnology at AC & RI, Madurai he is working on the establishment of graduate students teaching facility, developing multidisciplinary research project in the focus areas of Southern agro climatic eco systems of Tamil Nadu. Currently he is working as
Project Director, Centre of Innovation at AC & RI, Madurai with the responsibility of establishment of Central Instrumentation facility at a cost of Rs 5.30 crore.
RAMAN SINGH LISTED AMONG TOP FIVE IN GLOBAL POWER LIST
Mr Raman Singh, president, Mundipharma Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, has been ranked the world ' s fourth most influential person in the pharmaceutical industry by the UK ' s Medicine Maker.
Mr Singh was among only two executives from the private sector, and the only Asian-based person, to be ranked within the top five. The award comes after Mundipharma achieved year-on-year growth of 79 percent, expanded its business hub in Singapore and begun construction of a R & D and manufacturing facility in the city-state.
The Medicine Maker ' s Power List ranks the top 100 most influential people in the global pharmaceutical industry who inspire change by
solving business problems, founding research and championing causes. It includes top executives, academics and other professionals from leading companies and prestigious institutions around the world.
Mr Singh said, " Being named in this list is a reflection of the hard work put in across the whole company over a great year, and our vision for the future. Mundipharma is dedicated to ensuring that the emerging world has equal access to innovation as more mature Western economies."
