GRASS-ROOT MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM REDUCES TREATMENT GAP FOR DEPRESSION, REVEALS NEW STUDY
The Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has reported a high prevalence of suicides in agricultural communities. A 2015 study conducted by VISHRAM found that 5.2 % of the population interviewed had thought of taking their life in the last 12 months. Out of these, nearly half
( 45.3 %) also had depression.
A study published in The Lancet Psychiatry reports on the evaluation of VISHRAM( the Vidarbha Stress and Health ProgRAM), a grass-root community mental health program designed to address the mental health risk factors for suicide( ie, depression and alcohol use disorders) in a predominantly rural population of 100,555 people in 30 villages in the Amravati district of Vidarbha, a region which has been at the epicentre of farmer suicides in India. The program, implemented over 18 months, was delivered by two NGOs( Prakriti, with technical support by Sangath), was evaluated by the Public Health Foundation of India, and was funded by the Tata Trusts.

Enabling the convergence between the Navya system and TMC and NCG experts is another significant step in this direction,” said HSD Srinivas, who leads the health portfolio at the Tata Trusts.
HARYANA SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH AIMED ON INVESTMENT WORTH RS 5000 CR IN MEDTECH SECTOR
The state government of
Haryana and Association of Indian Medical Device Industry( AiMeD) have signed a MoU for driving Rs 5000 Cr of investment into Haryana’ s medical devices manufacturing industry as import substitution considering India’ s current import dependency of over 70 percent of imports worth over Rs 25,000 Crore that India is saddled with. Target year of completion of goal has been kept at 2020.
Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal Khattar in his speech mentioned,“ We are more than delighted to join hands with AiMeD to bring in investment to the medical devices sector in Haryana to reduce import dependency and convert Haryana into a global Medical Devices Manufacturing Hub”
The elated Mr Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, AiMeD said on the occasion,“ We are honoured to join hands with Haryana Govt. I have a vision of India being amongst Top5 Manufacturing Hubs of Medical Devices and this this MoU will help realise it by giving a big strategic push to manufacturing and innovation in Indian medical device industry while promoting Indian healthcare sector as a whole.”
J P NADDA INAUGURATES NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON FIRE SAFETY IN INDIAN HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
