MCI AMENDS RULES TO ENCOURAGE RURAL INTERNSHIP AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS
At present , the union government is not considering any proposal for mandatory internship for medical professionals
Mission ( NHM ), financial incentive is also provided to MBBS as well as PG doctors for serving in the rural areas . These incentives are over and above the salaries of the doctors concerned .
WELLCOME TRUST-DBT INDIA ALLIANCE TO FUND INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH MEETS IN INDIA
The Wellcome Trust-DBT India Alliance and European Molecular Biology Organization ( EMBO ) are looking to fund interdisciplinary meetings that cover the latest developments in research areas underserved in India . These meetings should address discovery and innovation through an interdisciplinary approach , with the speakers and participants discussing important global challenges in the context of the life sciences .
While India-EMBO Symposia is to take place in India , the scientists from anywhere in the world are eligible to apply , independent of their nationality . It must cover frontier , pioneering and interdisciplinary areas of life sciences that are underserved in India , and include speakers with interdisciplinary expertise . Furthermore , the application should include a list of ( mostly ) confirmed speakers .
The maximum funding available for an India | EMBO Symposia is 60,000 euros . Applications will be accepted twice in 2017 and must be submitted through the online system . Organizers should apply at least 6-12 months before the proposed date of the meeting . The deadlines for applications are 15 February 2017 and 15 July 2017 . in rural and remote areas . Health being a state subject , provision of healthcare facilities falls under the jurisdiction of respective state governments . The Minister of State ( Health and Family Welfare ), Mr Faggan Singh Kulaste stated this in a written reply in the Parliament .
Applicants will be asked to complete an online and an offline application form . All incoming applications are screened to ensure eligibility requirements are met . The decision on which proposals receive funding is jointly made by the EMBO Course Committee and the India Alliance Meetings Committee in May and October .
However , to encourage doctors working in remote and difficult areas , the Medical Council of India ( MCI ) with the previous approval of central government , has amended the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations , 2000 . Although internship for medicos in rural India has not been made mandatory but has benefits which can make them choose it without any pressure .
The amendments provide 50 percent reservation in Post Graduate Diploma Courses for medical officers in the government service , who have served for at least three years in remote and difficult areas . It also provides incentive at the rate of 10 percent the marks obtained for each year in service in remote or difficult areas as upto the maximum of 30 percent of the marks obtained in the entrance test for admissions in Post Graduate Medical Courses .
After amendments , if the medical students choose to work in the rural areas , they will get benefited while applying for their post graduate courses . Further , under , National Health
