Govt notifies regulatory standards for basmati rice
For the first time , the union government has notified regulatory standards for basmati rice which will be enforced from August 1 , 2023 . Being a premium quality rice , it is prone to various types of adulteration which include , among others , undeclared blending of other non-basmati varieties of rice . The notification issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI ) says setting a regulatory standard will ensure supply of genuine basmati rice , in both domestic and export markets . It states that basmati rice shall possess natural fragrance and it should be free from artificial colouring , polishing agents and artificial fragrances . The notification says brown basmati rice should be 7 mm and above in length and its cooked rice length should be 12 mm and above , on an average .
29 mobile veterinary units & call centre operationalized in Thiruvananthpuram
Parshottam Rupala , Union Minister for Fisheries , Animal Husbandry and Dairying inaugurated 29 Mobile Veterinary Units and centralized call center in Thiruvananthpuram in Kerala . These MVUs will be operated through a centralized call centre with a uniform Helpline No . 1962 . It will receive calls from livestock rearers , animal owners and Veterinarian will prioritize all cases on the basis of emergency nature and will transmit them to the nearest MVU . Each MVU shall be manned by a qualified Veterinarian and a Paravet for providing specialized services to livestock farmers , he added .
