Being a student was my main source of experience in education. I have been responsible for training in the military where I first got my taste for teaching. If you were to ask me what my teaching philosophy was back then, I would probably have spouted something about Aristotle or Plato. Clearly, instructing was not the same as teaching or professing, which I later found out was a term used in academia.

Much like life, I stuck to the golden rule when asked, “What is your teaching Philosophy?” during my interview to be a professor. I was honest about my answer and kept it along the lines of “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” Treat others as you would like to be treated and therefore my first philosophy of teaching was born. Teach others how I would have preferred to be taught.
