PRE-MED, PRE-VET, PRE-DENTAL Pre-professional programs (such as pre-medical, preveterinary, pre-dental, etc.) in and of themselves are not college majors, but rather pathways or tracks that prepare undergraduate students for application to the respective professional school programs. Since pre-med is not a college major, most GMercyU students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine major in biology. PRE-PROFESSIONAL ADVISING OFFICE Students interested in a career as a physician, veterinarian, dentist, or other doctoral health professionals can also utilize the services of GMercyU’s Pre-Professional Advising Office. With the help of your advisor and the Pre-Professional Advising Office, you can plan your curriculum and prepare your applications to help you achieve your professional goals. A biology degree opens the door for so many opportunities, ranging from doctors, veterinarians, researchers, scientists, forensic science technicians, public health specialists, and more! You can follow your passion while making a living. STUDENT SUCCESS For Jennifer Lorine, DO '06, the first steps toward her successful medical career all began as a Biology student at Gwynedd Mercy University. During her time at GMercyU, Jennifer: • Took advantage of GMercyU’s Honors Program to immerse herself in a challenging and enriching curriculum that sharpened her skills and helped her achieve her career goals • Was actively involved in the campus community, including singing with the Voices of Gwynedd choir, participating in the Biology Student Association, and being an active member of Sigma Phi Sigma, the National Mercy Honor Society • Assisted her fellow peers as a tutor at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) TODAY: Dr. Lorine is now an Osteopathic Physician and opened her own private practice in 2014 in Blue Bell, Pa. where she focuses on helping each patient achieve optimal health and pain relief without the use of narcotic medications. In 2017, Dr. Lorine was named to Pennsylvania’s Top Physicians Under 40 list by the Pennsylvania Medical Society. She was also installed as the President of the Montgomery County Medical Society of Pennsylvania in June 2020.
