Latoya’s Mood Board Straps, straps and more straps! It’s Latoya’s go-to for taking a monokini from the ordinary to the daringly risqué. Her inspiration comes from everywhere, from a top that catches her eye to an outfit she may have seen. “People who . . . see me walking down the road would probably think I am crazy because I am walking down the road and I am crossing up myself saying: ‘put a strap there, put a strap there,’” she adds with a laugh. Complex designs on simple colours also work well for the Daresque brand. Staying relevant is also of upmost importance. “Since I . . . started, other local swimsuit lines have started as well, so it is just to stay current and stay relevant [in order to compete]. But the original is the original. Anyone can come and copy but there is no one that can do it like you.” Colour blocking: Heating up the Summer Bright neons and bold patterns are the staples of the Barbadian summer, Latoya revealed. “I am working on my summer collection which would be simpler cuts, but more colourful,” she said. Latoya also brought the Rhythm and Booze to Island Fusion Foreday Morning band this year. “ . . The good thing about Foreday morning [costumes] is that it is kind of like a swimsuit. It was a great pleasure to work with Toni Thorne, and the section sold out really quickly.” Perhaps Latoya may dare to try Kadooment sometime soon? “It is something I am thinking about, but no promises. That is a whole other level with the colours and the feathers and the beads,” she laughs. https:// www.facebook.com/daresque Leigh-Ann Worrell FASHION ROCKs | BIM ROCK | 43
