S TRIKINGLY BEAUTIFUL, Latoya Daniel is one of those girls you cannot not miss when she struts into a room. Granted, she is in a more relaxed black tank dress blazoned with the name of her year-old swimsuit company – Daresque – when we meet her, but even then her simplicity exudes style. Her swimsuits bring both the heat and the chic to the beach and the high seas. NexCyx’s frontwoman Mahalia Cummins, promotional ladies and faithful fans have all been spotted across the ‘Gram in Daresque’s strappy, sexy suits – all to raving reviews. And one thing is for sure: Daresque is solely for “the bold, the confident and the daring.” This month, the young entrepreneur talks to FashionROCKs about her inspiration to start a swimsuit collection, what drives her designs and her contribution to Crop Over. “Dare to be Risqué . . .” In true island girl style, the beach is one of Latoya’s favourite places. She has been designing her own swimsuits for some time, but never tried her hand at designing for others until life handed her a blessing cloaked in disguise. “The company that I was working with relocated to America and the job market here was quite difficult. So I was thinking, ‘where do I go from here?’ I just decided to give [the company] a shot . . . .” And it was a good thing she did. Since the launch of her company last April, Daresque has received “amazing” reception, garnering lots of attention from the press and customers both here and abroad. “Sometimes you have an idea and you put it out there and you don’t really think it is going to go as great as it does . . . . I have a lot of international orders and I don’t have a website as yet. People go on my Instagram or my Facebook page and order [from] me there to ship to them.” 40 | BIM ROCK | FASHION ROCKs
