than not black - for excessive celebration, Crow
mirrors the black minstrel shows of the late 19th
century. It represents a perceived defiance in
the face of authority, when this showboating is
not merely done to entertain the masses, which
was the aim of the minstrel shows, but also for
personal vanity.
