Written by: DJ Puffy & Victoria Bristol Photography: Rachelle Gray Lighting: Epic Productions I T’S PRETTY MIND BLOWING TO DISCOVER THAT A DJ THIS ADROIT AND AUTHENTIC ONLY BEGAN MESSING AROUND ON DECKS 4 YEARS AGO WHEN SHE MOVED TO BARBADOS. What’s even more interesting is that she’s a mom of three, a wife and a businesswoman. Actually, there’s nothing that we learned about her that didn’t result in a genuine jaw-dropping experience. When you think of a female DJ who resides on these shores, I’m pretty sure that DJ D.Luxe is not the typical image that comes to mind and her sound is not what you’d expect to hear. “I’ve always felt like my own self,” D.Luxe shared while explaining why she’s always felt like an “Other”. Born in Spain, to a Spanish mom and Black dad, Dionna revealed that as a child she struggled to distinguish herself as being of exclusively black heritage or white heritage. “I’ve never felt as if I fit into a specific category as a human being,” Dionna expounded. Consequently, she isn’t repressed by the normality of any social group. No labels, no boxes, just whatever moves her soul. PARTY ROCKs | BIM ROCK | 19
