EDITOR’S note
Before I do my monthly Editor-in-Chief song and dance, I would first like to take a
moment to acknowledge the passing of Dominican reggae artists Nelly Stharre and
Trevy Felix whose charred remains were found in the hills of Mahaut just over a week
ago. They touched my life and so many others in their homeland, here in Barbados
and across the world with their beautiful music and positive livity.
Added to the sadness of that news came the loss of life and severe destruction
that swept across Dominica a few days later as a result of Tropical Storm Erika. My
imagination can not stretch around the current reality of everyone affected. I am at
a loss for words.
Thankfully the balance of life takes me now to a happier theme.
When we were planning this issue we wanted to extend a BimROCK nod to the brave
hearts whose avant-garde sense of expression lead us to caption what they do as Not
Normal. Not only are they different but the copious amount of forward they receive
for following their inner voices is awe-inspiring.
Fling bosses AzMan, the imaginative Sheena Rose, Indian cuisine chef Nasim Degia,
and bow tie designer Orlando Williams, all bring an interesting slant to Bajan life. We
also got a peek at Muuze’s Headphone Experience – which is quite an unusual event
for the Bajan party scene.
Lastly shout outs to the folks at Tyrol Cot for letting us run around in their mini village
for our AzMan cover shoot. While many of us have partied there at night, during the
day the village comes alive and houses several businesses. Much appreciation goes
out to Janelle Bullen, Nature who runs Hair Force Barbershop, Madonna Reece of
Infinite Beauty Solutions and Earl Gill of Blaze Bar.
And while I’m in forwarding mode let me big up my son, Indica, for my current editor
portrait. Good stuff.
Ok enough from me. Do you. It’s not normal after this.
