“Y WHAT ARE YOU TELLING ME 30 | BIM ROCK | CULTURE ROCKs OU KNOW HOW PEOPLE DOES SAY ‘BE OUTSIDE THE BOX’? I SAID, ‘WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU PUT YOURSELF INSIDE THE BOX?’” - ARTIST SHEENA ROSE. If I wanted to get fancy, I’m sitting with the phenomenal contemporary Caribbean artist Sheena Rose at her Ruby Park, St. Philip atelier. But plain and simple, I’m at Sheena’s home, where much of her art is created. That’s the thing about Sheena Rose, you can package her anyway you like because her creative scope is so wide and versatile. Her personality is down to earth and relatable. Rose is an academic, a Fulbright Scholar pursuing a MFA in Studio Arts at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro USA, with aspirations of also becoming a professor. In these times, her life is consumed with creating and defending her idea of art, of what she creates in the studio. “In the first year I was reflecting. I was thinking about myself being from Barbados being from the Caribbean and I decided to put myself in the box.”
