ISSUE 11 | NOVEMBER 2019 BC: What is the difference between a regiment and a battalion? SR: The Infantry regiments have different battalions in it's fold. So are some logistic units designated as Battalion too. Fighting arms are also designated as regiments, like Armoured Regiments, Signal Regiments, Engineer Regiments etc. BC: How many branches are there in Indian Army and what are they? SR: Mainly it's the fighting arms and the services which gives logistic support. BC: What is the difference between Squad and a Platoon? SR: The Squad is the smallest group. The Platoon is above it. BC: Which regiment of Indian Army is best and deadly? SR: All regiments are good. It depends on the opportunity a unit gets. The Special Forces are deadly by nature of its special role. BC: How does a regiment come into being and who decides that? SR: New regiments are formed depending on the threat perception. Decisions are taken at the highest level of the country. BC: I have heard about 7 commands in Indian Army; can you tell us what does "COMMANDS" mean and which are they? and who controls them? SR: India is a vast country sharing large extent of its borders in land, sea and air. The Commands are designated with their areas of responsibility. They function under the Army Headquarters. BC: Are Special Forces from the part of the regiment? SR: They are separate unit of the army and formed separate battalions. BC: I have seen many civilians gets appointed as an officers in the army like M.S.Dhoni. Can you please pour a light on it? SR: They are appointed as commissioned officers in the Territorial Army. Sports men like M.S.Dhoni, joining the army or Sachin Tendulkar joining the Air Force is a source of motivation. But the basic qualities of physical fitness, IQ etc. is applicable for them too. They have to undergo training as per the prescribed schedule. BC: Is Special Forces training different than the normal soldier's training? SR: Yes, their training is specialized. BIKERS CLUB | MAGAZINE | PAGE 19 BC: What is the hardest military branch to get into? SR: Every unit has it's unique role. One must have the required capability to join it. Infantry by it's role requires Officers and Jawans to be physically fir. Officers in the Infantry have to be qualified in Commando course. Similarly, Special Forces have tougher selection criteria by virtue of their designation and specialized role. Similarly, all units have their define role and have to be fit for it. BC: If you have taken part in any of the war then OMIT this question? Did you ever kill any of our nation's enemy? SR: I have been an Infantry officer. In the world over, the Infantry even under severe hostile circumstances have to fire to kill first before being killed or injured. It's our role. But I am proud to say that the Indian Army never fires first. BC: If you were given a chance to serve again for the country in next life, would you take that? If yes then what would it be ARMY, AIR FORCE OR NAVY? SR: "I REGRET THAT I HAVE ONLY ONE LIFE TO LAY DOWN," But if God gives me r-birth, I would like to be reborn again and again for serving in my battalion that I served which is 15th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment (INDORE). BC: Thank you for sharing details and knowledge about Indian Army. Now coming back to our Riding Questions... Tell us about your best and worst ride till now? SR: I do not consider any ride best or worst. i enjoy every ride of mine whether long or short. Difficulties or no difficulties... Challenges are welcome during rides. BC: How many rides you have done till now? SR: Plenty. Haven't really kept a track of the numbers. BC: Why riding motorcycles? SR: It has a different charm altogether. You are bonded with the air, earth, atmosphere with the machine hugging your body. You are not caged and take on challenges and risks boldly with your self-determination on the two wheels.
