ISSUE 11 | NOVEMBER 2019
BC: What is the difference between a regiment
and a battalion?
SR: The Infantry regiments have different
battalions in it's fold. So are some logistic
units designated as Battalion too. Fighting
arms are also designated as regiments, like
Armoured Regiments, Signal Regiments,
Engineer Regiments etc.
BC: How many branches are there in Indian
Army and what are they?
SR: Mainly it's the fighting arms and the
services which gives logistic support.
BC: What is the difference between Squad and
a Platoon?
SR: The Squad is the smallest group. The
Platoon is above it.
BC: Which regiment of Indian Army is best
and deadly?
SR: All regiments are good. It depends on the
opportunity a unit gets. The Special Forces
are deadly by nature of its special role.
BC: How does a regiment come into being and
who decides that?
SR: New regiments are formed depending on
the threat perception. Decisions are taken at
the highest level of the country.
BC: I have heard about 7 commands in Indian
Army; can you tell us what does
"COMMANDS" mean and which are they? and
who controls them?
SR: India is a vast country sharing large
extent of its borders in land, sea and air. The
Commands are designated with their areas of
responsibility. They function under the Army
Headquarters.
BC: Are Special Forces from the part of the
regiment?
SR: They are separate unit of the army and
formed separate battalions.
BC: I have seen many civilians gets appointed
as an officers in the army like M.S.Dhoni. Can
you please pour a light on it?
SR: They are appointed as commissioned
officers in the Territorial Army. Sports men
like M.S.Dhoni, joining the army or Sachin
Tendulkar joining the Air Force is a source of
motivation. But the basic qualities of physical
fitness, IQ etc. is applicable for them too. They
have to undergo training as per the prescribed
schedule.
BC: Is Special Forces training different than
the normal soldier's training?
SR: Yes, their training is specialized.

BC: What is the hardest military branch
to get into?
SR: Every unit has it's unique role. One
must have the required capability to join
it. Infantry by it's role requires Officers
and Jawans to be physically fir. Officers
in the Infantry have to be qualified in
Commando course. Similarly, Special
Forces have tougher selection criteria
by virtue of their designation and
specialized role. Similarly, all units have
their define role and have to be fit for it.
BC: If you have taken part in any of the
war then OMIT this question? Did you
ever kill any of our nation's enemy?
SR: I have been an Infantry officer. In
the world over, the Infantry even under
severe hostile circumstances have to
fire to kill first before being killed or
injured. It's our role. But I am proud to
say that the Indian Army never fires
first.
BC: If you were given a chance to serve
again for the country in next life, would
you take that? If yes then what would it
be ARMY, AIR FORCE OR NAVY?
SR: "I REGRET THAT I HAVE ONLY
ONE LIFE TO LAY DOWN," But if God
gives me r-birth, I would like to be
reborn again and again for serving in
my battalion that I served which is 15th
Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment
(INDORE).
BC: Thank you for sharing details and
knowledge about Indian Army. Now

SR: I do not consider any ride best or
worst. i enjoy every ride of mine
whether long or short. Difficulties or no
difficulties... Challenges are welcome
during rides.
BC: How many rides you have done till
now?
SR: Plenty. Haven't really kept a track of
the numbers.
BC: Why riding motorcycles?
SR: It has a different charm altogether.
You are bonded with the air, earth,
atmosphere with the machine hugging
your body. You are not caged and take
