Ego is the Enemy ! MY POINT OF VIEW BY RAHUL MEHTA FOUNDER | CEO | EDITOR OF BIKERS CLUB & MAGAZINE What is Ego? Ego is our identity, it's the mental self image which is created by our self beliefs, our experiences from various situations, it's the inertia of our beliefs, it's something in which we strongly believe in, it's the constant urge to survive, to live, it's the "I" and what I believe is right, it's the separated mind set from our body. You cannot differentiate ego in good or bad but it's the biggest obstacle in your life journey. The moment we think we are everything and what we believe is right is when you start to fall, because, more than positivity ego always emits negativity, and that negative energy becomes the hurdle in whatever you do in life. I am not saying ego is bad or you shouldn't have ego, it's not possible, in fact we all have ego and it's the ego only which is constantly driving us to survive in this universe, but only thing we should learn is to control it and use it in the right direction, which is very tough but not impossible. When your ego grows or becomes bigger than what you are then it's destructive.. destructive for others and yourself too. There are many types of ego but here we will discuss only major two. 1) "Hollow Ego" - which is superficial in nature. We try to pretend and project that we know everything or when someone else's belief system becomes our belief system without even knowing what it is... it's the worst ego one can have and which will always leads in to the darkness. 2) "Judgemental Ego" - which comes after knowledge and experience. It's the ego of knowledge and success, in which one becomes judgemental towards every one, and thinks him/herself superior than others. This type of ego sometimes helps but not everytime. If a person has no control over this ego then he / she always find themselves depression or a loner, because no one likes to be judged and no one likes to be with a person who keeps boasting about his / her knowledge or stories. Ego comes in three stages. 1) Aspire - Wanting to accomplish bigger and bigger goals in life or work field. 2) Success - Achieving our goals and receiving public praise. 3) Failure - Falling from grace and dealing with internal resistance. It is very important to have an ego to succeed but having control over that ego after success is inevitable, otherwise one cannot sustain the success. Aspire: You aspire to achieve all these amazing things and destroy everything in your way. But do you know who is the biggest obstacle? YOURSELF. More specifically your ego. The climb towards success creates dangerous openings from where the ego can burst through. In the attempt to go forward, you unknowingly go backwards. We start talking our future achievements to make us feel important and productive but we forget to put in the work. We get in our heads and become impulsive and reactive instead of practicing patience and being present and practical. We want to be the one in charge and do everything instead of helping and trust others. Therefore, it is imperative that we know how to avoid and identify them in ourselves and in others. Success: Success can be the greatest catalyst for ego - Countless are the successful people who worked extremely hard to reach a position of power and influence to later destroy their lives because of their egoistic addiction. It is the reason for many failed businesses, relationships and careers. Success is a double edge sword and we must put in place a mindset and tactics to help us wield this dangerous weapon. Remember; the ego only wants the short term pleasure associated with success. It's greedy, selfish and short minded. Failure: Failure happens to everyone, regardless of our ego. It's an inevitable aspect of our lives, therefore we must know how to deal with it. Failure is already hard to deal with by itself but our ego will hyperbolize the situation, making it even harder to bounce back from it. The ego is part of us and we have to manage it. Life is full of these ups and downs and our ego is always sitting in the dark, waiting to strike. But one should never stop learning, should not get fancy with him/herself, have a goal bigger than yourself and focus on the work. because "EGO IS THE ENEMY."
