Estrechamente relacionada desde niña con el
mundo de la moda, ya que su familia tenía
una fábrica textil, Viard entró como beca-
ria a la maison en 1987, apenas cuatro años
después de que Karl llegara al puesto. Co-
menzó en el departamento de bordado de
las colecciones de alta costura y, con el paso
del tiempo, fue ascendida hasta convertirse
en la mano derecha del káiser, acompañán-
dolo incluso durante un lustro en su paso
por Chloé. Al frente de 8 colecciones al año
como prêt-à-porter, resort, Métiers d’Art y
costura, su trabajo consistía básicamente en
traducir los bocetos del diseñador para lle-
varlos al taller donde coordinaba los equipos
y elegía los tejidos haciendo que los diseños

For 20 years, Virginie Viard has successfully occupied
one of the highest positions in Chanel, and, today, she
is responsible for its legacy.

Karl´s right hand – she even was with him during his venture with Chloe. In charge
of the eight yearly collections, including prêt-à-porter, resort, Métiers d’Art and cou-
ture, her job in the French firm consisted in interpreting the designer sketches to

ginie appeared in his place. Lagerfeld´s absence had the fashion world shaking with
uncertainty. His absence on February 19th augured the appointment of Virginie
Viard as Chanel´s new Creative Director. Virginie is taking on this huge challenge
after three decades of experience at Rue Cambon and absorbing her dear friend´s,
Karl, knowledge, knowing full well the best possible tribute is to continue his legacy.
