fillets and trudged back down with a heavy load arriving back to the hut in darkness. Darren and I discussed the day’s events with him having seen 4 deer on the way in. The next morning we again had a glass from near the hut over a hot chocolate or two. Darren picked up two deer but they spotted us on the approach and they were soon swallowed up by the bush. I’ve continued exploring the hills of the South Island in the following weeks, finding some very handy spots and some places that require a tad more effort but it’s all worth it.
