The next weekend I again met with Darren as we headed south to the Rees Valley to have a nosey around. At 10pm we left the truck and 4 hours later we arrived at the hut in some seriously icy conditions. We were grateful we had a hut, but the corrugated iron and beech pole frame didn’t look like the humble abode we had hoped for. After a restless few hours in the scratcher we awoke to the alarm and everything frozen solid. We made it to our first suitable glassing position in good time and after half an hour Darren spotted two chamois in the basin above us 600m away.
