Recap
Week two of the Big Blue Summer Camp is in the books!
Almost literally “in the books” as this was the first of our STEM
education camps.
This week featured programming through a partnership with
ODU’s Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO).
Monday and Tuesday campers were guided by CCPO
through learning stations to investigate the habitats and be-
haviors of common Chesapeake Bay critters like oysters and
snails. Additional stations showed campers how to use radar
and the effects of runoff in our community.
This week was extra special since we traveled on two field
trips! Our Wednesday trip to the Learning Barge in Norfolk
boasted more education about our watershed. The trip to
Ocean View on Thursday gave campers the opportunity to
apply what they had learned earlier in the week in the field
with the help of CCPO. On Friday we climbed the rock wall,
completed a sting ray craft, and celebrated the end of the
week and holiday weekend with an all camp dance party!
