With Lajitas and Study Butte as neighbors , there ’ s more to this area than Terlingua . Of course , Terlingua Ghostown is a staple of Big Bend culture , featuring live music most on the porch of the Trading Post , and Earth and Fire Gallery , an artist cooperative representing locals who also work there . There are a handful of galleries tucked into this former mining district to view Big Bend inspired art , with shows throughout the year . Chisos Galeria , a recent addition in Study Butte , showcases local talent from photography and jewelry to leather work and paintings . Found desert objects , rusted from exposure , make frequent cameos in Terlingua art . Photography , especially night sky shots , reigns supreme when it comes to how this area ’ s talent interprets the mystery of Big Bend . A growing community located in the desolate flats of Terlingua Ranch off S Hwy 118 has made the Little Burro Store its focal point , with monthly Full Moon potlucks , weekly live music , and other events throughout the year . Live music can be heard most nights anywhere locals congregate , since artists and musicians comprise a large proportion of residents . Expressive memorials at the Terlingua and Lajitas cemeteries comprise living works of art , in homage to those who are dearly departed . The holiday of Dia de Los Muertos invites a grand display of art and theatre at Terlingua Cemetery , as people join the twenty year tradition of lighting candles at the altars in , with art shows , music and general merrymaking amongst the mourning for those who were lost the preceding year .
