A paramedic who was attacked by a group of lads while on duty has been left so traumatised he has been unable to return to work, a court has heard.Dieter Reid, of Barton Tors, Bideford, is the only one of four men involved in the incident to have been charged by police.The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm during a hearing at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.The court was told how on August 20 last year paramedics were called to Mill Street in Bideford following concerns for the welfare of a drunken man.After initially being unable to find him, paramedic Trevor Wayborn and student medic Alice Box located Reid, who had made the call, on Lower Gunstone Street. Lyndsey Baker, for the prosecution, said after it became apparent that Reid was unable to walk, the pair decided to help him to the ambulance.She said: “The paramedic said it was not okay calling an ambulance because he was too drunk to get home and he became aggressive at this.The student medic tried to reason with the patient but he lunged

A Bideford man has been ordered to do community work after he swore during a street argument .Diamantino Pedro, aged 25, was already subject to a suspended sentence for a fight outside a pub when he became involved in the argument in which he shouted and swore.His case was moved to Exeter Crown Court because the convicn for ...................................................... and .............behaviour put him in breach of a 36-week suspended sentence imposed 11 months ago for his role in an affray outside Crabby Dick’s pub.Pedro, of Stella Maris Court, Bideford, admitted the new offence and being in breach of the order and Judge Phillip Wassall added 40 hours unpaid work to his existing sentence.He said the new offence did not merit imposing the suspended sentence but warned Pedro he was likely to go straight to jail if he offended again.Mr David Bowen, prosecuting, said police were called to Stella Maris Court earlier this year after neighbours complained that Pedro hadbecome abusive during an argument.Trainee chef Pedro was not represented but told the judge he was sorry for the incident and intended to stay out of trouble in the future. The father-of-two was one of a group of men who were arrested in February 2012 after a brawl outside Crabby Dicks in Cooper Street, Bideford.He was caught on CCTV using his belt as a whip after an argument started inside the pub which was packed with customers watching an England Holland football match on television.The trouble spilled onto the pavement outside where the fight moved up and down the street with several customers becoming involved either as participants or as would be peacemakers.Pedro was jailed for 36 weeks, suspended for two years, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid community work and curfewed for four months by Recorder Mr James Tindal last June

Pete north wins top awards.

Bideford AFC Youth Head Coach Pete North has been recognised as "Community Coach of the Year" and he also won the prestigious "Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award"

The Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards, was held at Exeter Chief's home, Sandy Park last Friday. The event was hosted by BBC Spotlight's Jenny Walrond. and with special guest Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi.MBE

" Well done and congratulations, This is for all of the things that Pete has done in the community with football I am sure that you all agree that this is well deserved" said Jenny.

Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi was full of praise for Pete and had some encouraging words for his Club " Bideford AFC Youth, you have had a brilliant year, it's phenomenal! You know each day and every day that Pete is there working hard, and today he has been recognised, twice he came up, he's the man!"

Pete was both delighted and surprised to have won the awards. " I am overwhelmed; I was genuinely not expecting to win the Community Coach Award with so many worthy candidates. When it came to the final award and Jenny was reading out the citation, I began to realise that they were talking about me! To win the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award is incredible. I am certain that it recognises not only what I have managed to contribute, but also the success of Bideford AFC Youth in providing opportunities for young people".
