Rapid City is hosting the Real America Birthday Bash July 1-4, 2026 at various locations including Main Street Square and Memorial Park. The multi-day free festival celebrates America turning 250 and features a full lineup of live music, a parade through downtown streets, local food trucks, beer gardens and vendors, kids and games zones, fireworks, a drone show lighting up the Black Hills sky and concerts. Music details are still in the works, but the Memorial Bandshell will host the US Air Force Band on July 1.
The Rapid City Festival of Lights Parade is hosting a parade at 7 p. m. on July 2 to help celebrate America’ s 250th Birthday. A large-scale drone show hits the skies July 2 over the City of Presidents while the city hosts its own fireworks show July 4.
On July 3 all eyes will be on Mount Rushmore and its live fireworks display. The ticketed event will be livestreamed for those who did not score an entry and Rapid City is hosting a watch party with Brandon Jones playing prior to the televised fireworks show, set to occur at dusk.
Many cities and towns are celebrating the 250th birthday of America with events throughout the year and summer, while some are opting for small celebrations around Independence Day.
Sturgis, which hosts weekly music series throughout the summer, is doing a patriotic themed Music on Main with Rowan Grace on July 1 at 6pm.
Also in the Northern Black Hills region Spearfish America 250th Parade takes place on July 3rd starting at 2 p. m. The parade route starts at the Spearfish High School, turning right onto Hillsview Rd. and onto North Ave., continuing down Main St., and will disperse off onto Grant St. The Spearfish Sasquatch baseball team will have a July 2 250th fireworks night with fireworks after the game.
In the Southern Black Hills, Hot Springs is hosting the Fall River 4th of July Celebration celebrating the nation’ s 250th anniversary. On July 3rd a free street dance takes place at Centennial Park with live music beginning at 7 p. m. On July 4th a Firecracker 5k / 10k & Mile Race is being held at Chautauqua Park and a 4th of July Celebration Parade starts at 10:00am. The parade begins on River Street and continues to Jennings Avenue, and Chicago Street until it concludes on 6th Street. The Chamber hosts a Community Picnic at the Mueller Center beginning at 11:30am. Also on the 4th a FireQuacker Duck Race starts at the Centennial Park Bridge at 1pm. People can also check out some nifty cars between noon and 3 p. m. at the Hot Springs Cruisers show and shine car show.
Custer is hosting its annual Patriots Parade and kids parade at 10am on July 4th as well as an arts and crafts fair and fireworks to cap off the 250th celebratory fun.
Keystone is hosting a unique celebration of patriotism with a town-wide decorating contest. Tourists and locals can vote for the next decorated home and business in the tiny community located at the base of Mount Rushmore.
The Deadwood-Lead area is celebrating not only the country’ s birthday but the 150th birthday of the town and the 100th anniversary of the Gold Camp Jubilee July 2-5. The festivities begin with some unique fun including concerts, sporting tournaments and competitions and a throwback baseball game between teams from Lead and Deadwood on July 5. Beer gardens, kids carnival games and activities, vendors and Independence Day fireworks above the Homestake Open Cut make this free family event worth checking out.
Hill City is also celebrating its 150th birthday and the birth of the nation with a July 4th Hill City Star Spangled parade down Main Street at 10 a. m. followed by an old fashioned pie and ice cream social from 2 p. m. to 4 p. m. pm at the Visitor Information center. The free event also features patriotic music from the Shrine of Democracy Chorus and the Gold Dust Chapter Car Club show.
