“ We think about future generations ,” Aleah said , “ and want to carry the torch for them .”
Steve and Michele continue to be a blessing to Greg and Aleah , but these days it looks a little different .
“ They get to be grandma and grandpa as we find our rhythm balancing ownership and daily operations with raising our two young sons ,” Aleah said . “ Family is very much a priority for us all , and with us taking over the Mill , Steve and Michele have been able to focus on family even more .”
Now Pizza Mill is a staple in Custer , and the entire Hills . Their pizza crust , specialty pizzas , sandwiches and more have been perfected through many seasons . These days the restaurant is bustling , having garnered a reputation both locally and with summer tourists .
The Mill is constantly improving and trying to stay ahead of the curve . They have dog-friendly patio seating ( with limited indoor seating ), and strive to serve as many people as they can via online ordering , dine-in , carry-out , delivery and extended summer hours .
“ People ’ s tastes change ,” Greg said , “ so we see every day as a chance to evolve and grow . It ’ s either that or get lost in it all .”
One of the ways in which the Mill is always improving , of course , is with regard to the food .
Pizzas are baked in a brick oven , and meats and toppings are sliced daily , along with sauces also being prepared daily . Greg and Aleah use a blend of cheeses with mozzarella made from buffalo milk , giving it extra flavor and stretch .
With everything from build-your-own pizzas to Mill Favorite pizzas and from sandwiches to salads , there is truly something for everyone at the Mill .

Some of the Mill Favorites you won ’ t find anywhere else . Take The Big Frog , for example : it ’ s Canadian bacon , sauerkraut , black olives and green olives , all with the Mill ’ s signature marinara and cheese on their ridiculously good crust . Or The Ultimate Reuben , which includes corned beef , sauerkraut , onions , green peppers , green olives and jalapenos on a base of house-made garlic-white sauce and Thousand Island sauce .
“ Our gyro pizza is always a hit ,” Aleah said . “ It has crisp lettuce , tomato and cucumber on top of the baked pizza that has gyro meat , tzatziki sauce and cheese .”
And although not coined by the Mill , guests enjoy dipping their pizza crusts in a honey as a little treat .
For appetizers there ’ s cheesy bread ( even gluten free ), wings , onion rings and more . Their Mean Green salad is fresh greens , tomatoes , bell peppers , onions , bacon , cheese and garlic bread , and is a local favorite .
Sandwiches include the Chicken Bacon Ranch , a gyro and even a Slash Pile : roasted chicken , spinach , tomato , blended , melted cheese and house-made garlic-white sauce .
If you ’ re not in the mood for pizza or a sandwich , though , you still have options . Maybe your kids want a chicken strip basket or their awesome chicken Alfredo and garlic bread combination .
During this past winter , one of the specialty pizza offerings was a Pickle Pizza with sliced dill pickles , onions , bacon , crushed red pepper flakes and mounds of cheese on a base of house-made garlicwhite sauce . It was so popular , it ’ s now a permanent menu item .
