There are approximately 200 caves in the Black Hills , including two in the Southern Hills : Jewel Cave National Monument and Wind Cave National Park .
Jewel Cave is the second-longest cave in the world , at 139 miles long and 631 feet deep , while Wind Cave National Park , at 124.5 miles , is the third-longest cave in the United States and the fourth-longest in the world . Ranger-guided tours cover a variety of topics and tours are offered at both locations , both in the caves and on their surface . These tours stir the imagination and educate the mind . Both caves are open year-round . A light jacket is recommended for cave tours .
