ABOUT WORK
EXPERIENCE
1. The Aims of Work Experience 2. Completion of Workbook
Work Experience will give you the
opportunity, whilst still at school, to
explore what work is really about.
You can: Throughout the programme, you are
encouraged to discuss the work you do
with people in the different areas that
you work in and note down important
points. It will also be a chance to
reflect on your feelings when working
in a new environment, meeting new
people and learning new activities on a
day-to-day basis.
• Find out about the significance and
opportunities of work.
• Discover something about
your own skills, preferences
and talents.
• Begin to adjust to different
environments, people, routines and
standards expected at work.
During your time spent on Work
Experience you will be treated like an
employee. You will undertake normal
duties and work normal hours (or as
required). You are expected to be polite,
hard-working and co-operative.
By completing this workbook, it will
help you to keep an accurate record of
your Work Experience and also provide
you with a record of the work you see
and are involved in. It can also be used
as evidence when applying for courses
or employment.
3. Assessment
At the end of your two weeks you will
have an opportunity to assess your
experience and write your thoughts
in the workbook. There is also a
section where your employer can give
their assessment.
4. Follow Up
- Letter of thanks to your Work
Experience supervisor.
