• Mount and unmount a quiet Thoroughbred safely with assistance from the ground, a mounting block or leg up
• Check and safely adjust stirrups with foot in, on the move, on a quiet Thoroughbred, without assistance
• Check and adjust girth on the move at exercise, without assistance
• Hold reins singularly, in a single bridge and double bridge maintaining appropriate level of contact and control
• Follow instructions to ride a quiet Thoroughbred, at an appropriate length of stirrup to maintain balance at walk, trot and canter, independent of hands on a quiet thoroughbred, in an enclosed space
• Prepare a quiet Thoroughbred for exercise tacking up with racing saddle, bridle and equipment under direction
• Put on and fit racing tack with awareness of comfort and safety, under direction
• Follow instructions to wear the appropriate PPE when handling and riding Thoroughbreds
• Keep a safe distance away from people and other Thoroughbreds in the enclosed area
• Horsemanship skills required to keep Thoroughbred horses healthy and enjoying a good life
• Interact and work positively with Thoroughbreds to protect their mental and physical wellbeing
• Walk and trot a quiet thoroughbred, safely in control in an open area, including on the roads in company
• Use cues( pressure and release) effectively to ask a quiet Thoroughbred to walk, trot, canter and halt in an enclosed space
• Change the rein in walk and trot, adopting the correct diagonal when working in a circle
• Canter a quiet horse in an enclosed space, in control, on the correct canter lead
• Adapt to the situation, environment, hazards, demands of the activity and response of the quiet Thoroughbred
• Minimise risk by tacking up correctly, according to instructions
• Carry out appropriate safety checks on tack and equipment under direction
• Work safely to instructions, always respecting others in an enclosed space, on the roads and in open spaces
• Carry an exercise whip in preferred hand maintaining organised reins and an appropriate level of contact
• Rewards( stroke, scratch, voice, pressure release of aids) that can be used to make positive interactions with Thoroughbreds
