Emily Villiers
Racing League
Having just finished my joint undergraduate degree in Arts and Festivals Management and Dance from De Montfort University , I could not be more excited to be part of the British Horseracing Development Programme this year . During my time at university I have been heavily involved with DMU Equestrian , where I competed under the university name in the British Universities & Colleges Sports ( BUCS ) league for three years and played an active role on the club ’ s committee , ultimately leading to me becoming Chair of the club in my final year . I have a passion for horses and equestrian sport , especially racing , as well as a love for American Football , running and weight training . This programme presented itself as the perfect opportunity to combine my love of sports and passion for equestrian with the all the aspects of festival management that I enjoy .
I am looking forward to learning more about how the racing industry is continuing to make positive changes in order to grow and develop and hope to make meaningful connections and gain valuable insight into the racing world . It offers the chance for me to begin forging a career in the racecourse operation / management area , whilst giving me the opportunity to develop the industry in ways that I deem important , such as increased accessibility in the sport , engaging new audiences not typical to horseracing and encouraging female representation across the industry .

I am 23 years old from Surrey , I graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Sport Management and currently working towards a master ’ s in international Sport Management at the University of Worcester . My father was in the Calvary so from a young age I have grown up around horses and continued to fall in love with the equestrian world . I have also been a rugby player for eight years and I cannot wait to bring over my experience from rugby into horseracing .
I am excited to learn about the behind the scenes of horseracing and to be involved in the operational process of projects , also meeting people across the racing industry , learning from their stories and experiences . I love to travel and explore new cultures ; my future ambitions are to travel the world aiding sports organisations to achieve their visions and make a positive impact within sports environments . careersinracing . com
