On successful completion of the Foundation Course , students will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care . They will then be placed in a racing yard to complete a six week work placement and then commence an Apprenticeship at Level 2 . This course is compulsory for anyone under 19 who wants to work in a racing yard . Students will learn a host of skills specifically related to the care of racehorses , including how to ride and importantly , how to look after themselves and keep fit . There are no specific entry requirements other than a desire to work outdoors , have a reasonable level of fitness and have a hardworking attitude .
The course will include :
• A residential Foundation Course ( 12 weeks )
• 6 week work placement at a trainer ’ s yard
• A work placement in a racing yard to complete an Apprenticeship at Level 2 ( at a yard to be agreed between the National Horseracing College and Learner )
• Free tuition for learners , low cost accommodation and food
• For anyone age 16 +
• No experience necessary
• Riding and non-riding option
• Life skills
