The British Horseracing Development Programme

The British Horseracing Development Programme ( formerly known as the British Horseracing Graduate Development Programme ) is well known and highly regarded throughout the British Horseracing industry
This Programme provides an invaluable source of talent to the sport and its supporting industry . It is an early careers programme suitable for candidates with Degrees , Higher Apprenticeships or equivalent skills and capabilities .
Over 450 people have completed the Programme and the majority have established careers in British Horseracing in a wide range of roles ; management positions at racecourses , bookmakers , the trade press , trainer ’ s yards , studs , bloodstock sales and also at the British Horseracing Authority .
The Programme starts with a free , comprehensive two-week residential introduction course usually held at The British Racing School in Newmarket in July . This is followed by an 8 week paid placement at one of the sponsoring companies . Applications are usually invited from November to the end of February each year .

National Association of Racing Staff Careers Advice & Training Service (CATS) The National Association of Racing Staff is an independent Trade Union representing all racing staff, with various links to bodies within racing. It will negotiate wages and conditions within racing yards and is there to represent staff in cases of dispute. CATS is a Careers Advice and Training Service for staff working within the British horse racing industry. The service can be used by anyone who wants to progress and develop within their current role or within the wider industry.
