On successful completion of the Foundation Course, students will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care. They will then be placed in a racing yard to complete a six week work placement and then commence an Apprenticeship at Level 2. This course is compulsory for anyone under 19 who wants to work in a racing yard. Students will learn a host of skills specifically related to the care of racehorses, including how to ride and importantly, how to look after themselves and keep fit. There are no specific entry requirements other than a desire to work outdoors, have a reasonable level of fitness and have a hard-working attitude.
The course will include:
• A residential Foundation Course( 12 weeks)
• 6 week work placement at a trainer’ s yard
• A work placement in a racing yard to complete an Apprenticeship at Level 2( at a yard to be agreed between the National Horseracing College and Learner)
• Free tuition for learners, low cost accommodation and food
• For anyone age 16 +
• Riding and non-riding option
• Life skills.
