Racecourse Association ( RCA )
The Racecourse Association was formed in 1907 , and is the trade association for Britain ’ s racecourses . It ’ s aims are :
• To promote the highest professional standard in racecourse management , Health and Safety , medical and veterinary best practice
• To promote racecourse interests within the racing industry and generally
• To provide information , training and support for racecourses
• The management of the Racegoers Club
• To assist Racecourses to comply with regulations and British Horseracing Authority General Instructions .
Racehorse Owners Association ( ROA )
With more than 7,100 members , the Racehorse Owners Association promotes and protects the interests of racehorse owners in Great Britain . The ROA plays a central role in British racing politics and finance and is a founder member of the Thoroughbred Group , an organisation which represents owners , trainers , jockeys , breeders and stable staff .
The Racing Post
The Racing Post is a daily horse racing , greyhound racing and sports betting newspaper . It was founded in April 1986 by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a rival to the Sporting Life . It includes information on form of horses in meetings across the country , the going of the courses , age of horses , handicap ratings and other information relevant to the race in question .
Star Sports
The UK ’ s leading luxury bookmaker , Star Sports was launched as Star Racing in 1999 . Now based in Brighton , Star Racing was rebranded in the summer of 2009 to reflect its growth and the wider portfolio of services offered to its clients . Weatherbys
Weatherbys has been in business since 1770 . For the majority of its history it was a family partnership , but in 1994 it became a Limited Company . It remains a private company , owned by the Weatherby family . Various companies have been created to handle the different aspects of the diverse business . At the end of 2005 a rationalisation was undertaken , and there are now 3 principal companies . Weatherbys Thoroughbred Ltd is responsible for Racing work under Contract to the British Horseracing Authority . Through its two subsidiaries , Weatherbys GSB and Weatherbys Ireland GSB , it is also responsible for the Thoroughbred Breeding Registry (‘ General Stud Book ’) in Britain and Ireland .
