Second Grade Classroom

The students completed two math chapters this way which lasted about 6-7 weeks and surprisingly the data wasn’t that different. There were days one group did better than the other and vice versa. I observed students being distracted in both settings. During my observations I wondered if the age of my students, seven or eight years old was the key component in why they can’t stay focused for long periods of time and not whether or not the instruction was presented in a whole group setting or on a video. I truly think regardless of age, if the topic is interesting then you can get your students to stay focused and if they aren’t interested then they will find anything around them to be distracted by during the lesson.

Moving forward, I plan to use the videos for reteach opportunities when a student doesn’t understand what was taught during instruction. I will also share the videos with parents so they can watch at home with their child and know how to help them better at home.
