WeVideo

What is Wevideo?

WeVideo is an online video editor that allows its users to create and share videos. The tool allows students to easily record themselves (with a webcam), record their screen (with a Google extension), and record their voice (with a microphone). Students are also able to upload any images or recordings of their choosing to emphasize the topic of their video. After adding in all of the digital media that they need, the video can be enhanced with provided music, backgrounds, overlays, text, and other editing tools. This allows students to personalize their projects while making a quality product.

This video production tool can be used in many ways in multiple content areas. The scale of the assignment is up to the educator. Students can create a video in order to demonstrate a skill or information learned on one topic or it can be used to review a magnitude of concepts. Students can present information that they have found through research, through data collection, or personal interviews. The goal of using WeVideo is to give students a chance to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities through project-based assessments. The range of ways that an educator can use WeVideo in their classroom is limited to only their imagination.

As a student, I loved when my teachers said the word “project”. I can remember spending hours working on a replica of Jupiter in elementary school and a poster on Frindle for a book report in middle

school. Now, I know not all of my classmates shared my same enthusiasm for these educational tasks. However, we could all agree on one thing, they were much better than a paper-pencil assessment. Students of today have the added advantage of being able to create media presentations as a form of demonstrating their knowledge. One online tool that is helping students create video presentations is WeVideo.
