Fire Hydrants
The history of the fire hydrant is unknown because the office holding the original patent for the invention
in Philadelphia, ironically, burned down.
English Driving
The English are notorious for the fact that they are one of the only Western countries that drive on the left
side of the road. This tradition seems to not make any sense unless we look back a couple hundred
years. When jousting was a common sport, people rode on the left so that the sword arm (the right hand)
would be able to fight their oncoming opponents who would be coming from the right so that the
opponents would be able to fight with their right hand as well. The English later adopted this custom as
the norm for transportation and have not changed this custom since medieval times.
