BREAKFAST
Breakfast has always been considered to be the most essential meal of the day which still holds true. According to a multitude of studies, teen girls are quite prone to skipping breakfast to avoid weight gain. However, the reality is the skipping breakfast is more likely to cause weight gain than prevent it. In 2008, a study done by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that adolescents who ate breakfast daily had a lower BMI than those who rarely or never ate breakfast. Skipping meals, especially breakfast actually makes weight control that much more difficult. Those who skip breakfast tend to eat more food than usual for the next meal, or consume high calorie snacks to no longer feel hungry, all which can negatively impact ones metabolism. Although the common excuse for teenagers is that they don't have enough time in the morning to eat breakfast, eating a wholesome and nutritious meal in the morning will have more positives than negatives, especially in the long run. Preparing a healthy breakfast can be quick and easy with the right resources, whether it be grabbing a quick bowl of natural granola and milk, or making a bowl of oatmeal.
