Oberyn Martell

Although this wasn’t listed as number one on the worst death’s list it does take cake for the most gruesome and awful. If we've learned anything in five-plus seasons of Game of Thrones, it's that pride is a deadly sin. In a duel to decide the fate of Tyrion, Oberyn’s acrobatic swordsmanship would have won him the fight -- and saved his own life -- were it not for his insistence upon taunting his fallen opponent, Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane. Instead, Clegane popped Martell's head like a cherry tomato, making for a gruesome scene that made even the most hardened Thrones fans avert their eyes.

Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell

The death of Lord Eddard Stark, at the time the main character of the series, came as a shock complete shock to many viewers. Remember when the Lord had valuable secrets that could be used against the royal family? We won’t spoil what the secrets were but obviously someone didn’t want them out if this is what it came down to. Eddard's beheading established the cruel, impulsive nature of Joffrey (Ugh!) Baratheon -- more on him later (no worries, he got what he deserved).

Ramsay Bolton

The best death is revenge death and the Starks really know how to do revenge death. Sansa Stark got to get her hands dirty by feeding her own "husband" to his hounds after winning the Battle of Bastards. Sansa apparently doesn't choose her husbands well. First there was Joffree then there's the ever so sadistic Ramsay. Let's hope the next one is a good one Sansa.

Jon Snow

THERE.WILL.NEVER.BE.ENOUGH.WORDS.TO.DESCRIBE.OUR. DESPAIR!!! That was dramatic but seriously, this one was a tough one for us just because it was our beloved Jon Snow. We never hated Olly more after he betrayed us by not only killing Ygritte but Jon too. The brutal murder, carried out by a few of the Night's Watchmen who think Jon Snow's decision to allow Wildlings refuge beneath the wall is more treasonous than literal treason, ended the life (temporarily, thank god!) of the only real male protagonist left on the show.

Robb, Talisa, and Catelyn Stark (The Red Wedding)

The number one death on our list could’ve been avoided if Robb Stark could’ve just stuck to the script. In an effort to gain the Frey family to join forces with the Stark’s in the fight against the Lannisters, Stark agreed to marry the daughter of Lord Walder Frey. Instead, he decided to marry a beautiful nurse. Congrats to him, not only was his direwolf killed but his wife, his mother and Rob himself were killed as well in what is reffered to in the series as “The Red Wedding”, the worst death(s) in the series thus far and our choice of number one worst death.

King Joffree (The Purple Wedding)

We waited an eternity for this death and well it was well worth it to say the least. The temporary king of the land that Thrones fans loathed finally met his match by drinking red wine, at his own wedding. Joffrey's dictatorial and cruel demeanor were full force at the ceremony, where he repeatedly humiliates Tyrion being also newly married to his former soon-to-be wife Sansa before finally choking on his wine, and turning a deep shade of purple, and dying painfully. Best part? Actually there was no best part, the entire thing was five-star and such a clap in front of your TV moment worthy.
