It ’ s hard to put into words what I am feeling as I am typing this letter . Gratitude seems too small a word to adequately capture the deep appreciation I have for what Betterman has become . For what you have allowed it to become .
BetterMan was initially quite a selfish endeavor . I wanted to learn from the best , for myself . Sharing it with the rest of the world was an afterthought . But my selfishness lasted only a couple of days as the response I got immediately made me realize that this could really impact the lives of others .
There are many different things that I could have written about for this inaugural letter . But there is one thing that I truly desire for you . One thing that trumps everything else I will ever write about . The hope that you will live an impactful life . Just digest that for a second , and then realize that it ’ s not as difficult as it may seem . You do not need a platform like BetterMan to make an impact . Nor should you wait for the perfect moment . It starts today , right here in this moment .
Once you make up your mind that you will live an impactful life then you will realize that the opportunity to create change is all around you . In the smallest moments like the way you treat your waiter , to the bigger moments when you decide what you want to do with your life .
I know that you are already making an impact on those around you . But if you feel like the time has come to intensify your impact , then it starts with asking yourself these two questions … What do I really want out of life ? Given my skills , loves , and aspirations , how can I best serve others ? The answers will not come easy . Take the time to wrestle with them . If there is not an equilibrium between these two forces ( want vs service ) then you will become bored , frustrated and without purpose .
The beautiful thing about impact is that it spreads . It ’ s the match that lights a fire , that will eventually engulf everything in it ’ s way .
