"Your Brain on Job Search: Resiliency Strategies for a Change-Driven World"
Presentation by Brian Torkkola
The job search process is an emotional rollercoaster for many
people. Job loss can threaten your brain’s survival needs as well
as your higher-level, personal goals, which exacerbates the
ups-and-downs.
In this presentation, Brian Torkkola will review how your brain
came to be, how it works, and how chronic stress impacts brain
function. Understanding some basic information about your
brain function is a very powerful motivator for you to develop
new resiliency habits. Five resiliency strategies will be offered to
improve your brain function as well as help mitigate the ups-and-downs of your
search.
This presentation is open to all – whether considering a job search or
experiencing other life transitions. Following the presentation, there will be
opportunity to support networking. Previous CareerWalk participants are
welcome to reconnect!
Brian Torkkola is a job and career transition coach whose mission is to empower
and enable people to design and live a fulfilled life.
What's Cooking?
In recent months, there have been changes in kitchen protocol at both campuses.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities is blessed to have kitchen coordinators,
Chris Quinn and Rita Rivers, on staff. They are certified in kitchen safety and
trained to help us follow state guidelines in food preparation and serving. They
are committed to ensuring that events held at either campus meets Minnesota
State Department of Health standards. Some changes are small—a few extra
signatures when you reserve the kitchen for an event, for example—and some
are larger—each event in the kitchens need a “Kitchen Event Manager” present.
Each change ensures that Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities continues
serving up delicious and quality food! If you have questions about our new
policies, feel free to reach out to Chris at [email protected] or Rita
at [email protected]. You can also contact Chris or Rita if you would
like to volunteer to work in the kitchen and help ensure kitchen safety during
Wednesday Church Night supper, funerals, and other one-time events.

“Stir up in your children the gift of the
Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and
understanding…the spirit of joy in your
presence.”
These words of blessing begin a
display of confirmation photos at the
Minneapolis campus that reach back
to the beginning of this congregation.
There are now many new panels to
bring it forward.
