What Does It Mean That Jesus Saves ?
We don ’ t need to wait until the afterlife to experience Jesus ’ saving energy . In fact , we can ’ t wait . Saying salvation is only about the afterlife is a message that has been used to pacify and oppress people during this life . We have to believe that we can help Jesus to bring God ’ s kingdom here and now , to this time and place . We play a role in making the earth more like Heaven . We can do this by :
• Fighting cattiness between girls by complimenting each other and disengaging from the competition
• Spreading kindness can look as simple as helping someone who is lost or helping someone who has dropped something
• White people standing up to other white people who are being racist
• Complaining less about the weather and simply appreciating the beauty of nature
• Being aware of the impact our actions have on the climate and getting vocal about it
• Donating to charities who are already organized and doing amazing work to transform the world toward God ’ s beauty , equality and love
• Accepting constructive criticism and risking personal growth
• Approaching life with an open mind and a spirit committed to listening to the view of the other
• Sharing gratitude and practicing random acts of kindness , as simple as holding a door open for someone

Why do we welcome little children in worship ?
In our baptismal service , parents , sponsors and the whole congregation promise to bring children to worship . Bringing children into the Sanctuary is like allowing a child to eat at the dinner table . Even though their manners are far from elegant , it is done so those children will learn and feel a part of the family . Inviting children to participate is the most powerful way to teach them .
Children giggle , they poke , they ask questions and they swing their legs simply because they are children . Young children in worship may have bad moments , but it is their birthright as Christians to worship . Children learn by experience . This is how we learn to worship and become an active member of this church community . Children learn how to welcome by how they are welcomed .
