Bethel Funerals Thyra Thomas Order of Service Booklet | Page 2
We have come together to thank God for the life of Thyra,
to mourn and honour her, to lay to rest her mortal body
and to support one another in grief.
We face the certainty of our own death and judgement.
Yet Christians believe that those who die with Christ share eternal life with him.
Therefore, in faith and hope we turn to God, who created and sustains us all.
As part of our worship today we place the symbols of the Christian Faith near Thyra’s
body to affirm publicly her faith in the Lord Jesus.
Water symbolises the new life of the Christian.
The Candle reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world.
The Bible is central to all that the Christian believes and hopes.
The Cross attests to Jesus’ death and God’s forgiveness available to all who believe.
Opening Hymn
Amazing Grace (how sweet the sound)
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
As grace first taught my heart to fear
To grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come:
God’s grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.
