Best speaker Magazine Issue 2 - December 2017 | Page 3

EDITORS’ MESSAGE Best Speaker is a voyage, where great public speakers are born and where great leaders are made . It’s the voyage where the contestants explore new horizons while the distinguished organizing committee members dare to set up the best stage amidst all storms. In an era where technology brings information to our fingertips, the Best Speaker Contest unveils the essence that still lies in speaking your heart out and the Best Speaker Magazine reveals the gist of pouring your thoughts into words. The pages of this magazine reflect the smiles, dedication and hardwork of the Gaveliers who have been diligently working to bring this magazine to life. The Best Speaker magazine is an endeavour on its second year is an extension of the contest itself, providing the space for both professionals in the field along with club members to freely express themselves. The University of Kelaniya Gavel Club is a platform which produces not only eloquent speakers who could inspire an audience, but also attentive listeners, prolific writers, proofreaders, interviewers and graphic designers. Every single pixel of this magazine bears witness to this. We would like to acknowledge and extend our gratitude to Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kelaniya and Prof. Chamaru De Alwis, Director, Career Guidance Unit for their immense support. We extend our heartiest thanks to Dr. M. P. Deeyamulla, Senior Treasurer of the club and our mentor Mr. Sujith Bandulahewa who have been with us throughout the voyage. We also mention our deep sense of appreciation to the key personalities whom we interviewed for their valuable time. We would be neglecting our duty if we don’t profuse our thanks to Gavelier Chamodhi Ravihansi, the President of the University of Kelaniya Gavel Club and Gavelier Thushan Madhusanka, the Project Chairperson of Best Speaker 2017, who entrusted us with the task of bringing this magazine to life. Finally, we shower our heartfelt thanks to each and every Gavelier who was in the backstage. To conclude the editors’ note, we would like to mention that this magazine is a reach out to all the hands which shake on holding the microphone. Hold tight even if it shakes. Sit back and witness the glamour of the grand finale of Best Speaker 2017 and see you holding the microphone at Best Speaker 2018. ZHULFAA ZHULFICAR CO-EDITOR CHAMAKA RANASINGHE CO-EDITOR
