Q
What do you think of the
opportunities that are there
for men and women in society at
present?
Women have enormous opportunities
compared to how it was in the past. Lot of
people say that young people are horrible
and selfish, but I think they aren’t. Because
I see the difficulties that young people
face. They are busy with their studies,
they have to get through their exams, and
they have to seek jobs, and strive to live
independently in society. They have a very
limited time to spend on behalf of others.
But that doesn’t mean that they neglect the
old-aged. Different people have different
skills and so there are more opportunities
for the younger generation compared to
the past.
Q
The University of Kelaniya
Gavel Club aims to improve
leadership and communication
skills. In your opinion, what can the
club do to attain its vision?
Public Speaking in other words mean,
‘speaking to an audience’. First of all,
what you speak should be heard well and
understood clearly by the audience. Thus,
a speaker should have the self-confidence
to speak to the audience with courage,
self-confidence and correct pronunciation
of the words he or she utters. The
speakers should practice properly and
opportunities should be always given to
improve themselves.
Q
What advice or suggestions can
you give to the youth walking
in the path of leadership?
Have self-confidence and self-respect
while living in society. If you want to be
good leaders, be trustful to one another
and understand the feelings of other
people.
As we got up to leave, our hearts
and minds were overflowing with
her memories; re miniscences that
brought laughter and smiles. There
was not a moment we heard regret
or remorse in her voice, which meant
that she had spent her years as she
wished. Many would see Iranganie
Serasinghe as a veteran actress or
an environmentalist, though in truth,
she is an individual who can teach
the younger generation to view life
in a humane manner.
