pass on that understanding and experience to
people who engage with their creations.
Are Aki and Arnaud’s positions that different? Probably not. Whether as individuals or members of the same design team, each has unique experiences and thoughts which inform their common life and practice. But equally, could it not be that each is simply providing perspective on the same position? And could not those perspectives find reconciliation in
the concept of an object being “en-spirited”
through the inspiration and practices of the creative members who created the object and the people who engage with it by sitting in a chair or working in an office or eating across a table, inviting the object into their universe and community as it serves them as they serve it by telling stories of their own making.
As Arnaud said: “Time passes through the object to give it its soul.”
The same might be said of us.

Carpenter's
Workshop
Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional art by international artists or designers, both rising and established, going outside their traditional territories of expression. Actively involved in the research and production of limited edition works, the gallery’s choices are guided by seeking an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that must appear evident.
The gallery focuses on that moment where design becomes art, creating and exhibiting sculptural objects that provoke an emotional response. The gallery realised there was a market for art collectors when it saw that the quality of the furniture in their houses did not match the art on their walls.
