Ηπρώην συνοικία του Φραγκομαχαλά είναι πλέον hip σημείο συνάντησης της πόλης, αν και η ανάπλαση της πλατείας και η δημιουργία βιοκλιματικού πάρκου συνέβαλαν γενικότερα στο update της περιοχής. Οι δρόμοι Βαλαωρίτου, Συγγρού, Βηλαρά, που κάποτε αποτελούσαν το εμπορικό κέντρο, ήταν γνωστοί για τα ραφεία και τα καταστήματα λευκών ειδών.
