What are the changes that you notice in the island ’ s tourism landscape ? What is quite noticeable this year is the significant increase of arrivals at the early months of the season , as well as the realization of new investments , which have the effect of upgrading the services provided . Which are the goals you were aiming to achieve this year ? The internal restructuring of the Municipality , the waste collection which was commissioned by a private company following an international competition , the constant showcasing of our cultural heritage . We have given extra attention to schools , which we found with significant sums and the upgrade of sports infrastructure , which was abandoned for years . Next goals , a new indoor gym and nursery , the upgrade of the water supply-sewerage network , the completion of the new port etc . What do you foresee in regard to the development of the financial “ miracle ” of Mykonos ? How do you deal with the fact that many businessmen consider the island the proper place for quick profit ? Mykonos operates in full capacity in relation to its infrastructure . If we don ’ t upgrade our state-run infrastructure , soon we will face problems . From our side , we have done everything in in the framework of our responsibility and our financial capacity . Unfortunately , the state is silent and does not assist us . As for the businessmen who are the so called “ comets ”, my experience so far shows that sooner or later the island itself rejects them . Maintaining the Mykonian “ flavour ” is part of your priorities . What do you do to achieve this ? Alas ! This the number one issue . Mykonos is protected by royal and presidential decrees and every investment has to respect and abide to them , whilst respecting the environment and the unique architectural landscape . At the same time , we have introduced the Aesthetics Committee which supervises and takes action against infringements both in a preventive as well as repressive manner . What is the largest threat the island has to face , according to you ? The tragic lack of staff of the public sector . In essence , whilst development is the main objective for Greece , we have achieved development but unfortunately have no help from the state to further reinforce it . What are the competitive advantages of Mykonos in relation to other upper class destinations in the world ? The beaches of Mykonos , the unique Cycladic architecture of Chora , the picturesque setting of Ano Mera , the ancient Delos and plenty more which are hard to find elsewhere . The next large bet ? To remain on top , lengthening the tourism season without having any setbacks in the provided quality and aesthetics of Mykonos . If you could organize a large world event , which would be it ? Ideally the Formula 1 . The route from Tourlos to Ornos via the regional road and from Ornos backs to Tourlos via the Megali Ammos , the small regional road is truly impressive .
