Three-stringed , pear-shaped , it has its roots in Byzantine times and is played with a bow , while it consists of the hollow part , the “ kafki ” ( made of walnut , mulberry or maple wood ) and the front , the “ cap ”, of rare wood “ katrani ”( cedar of Lebanon ) aged up to a few centuries !

THE LEGEND OF DROSOULITES Built in 1370 by the Venetians in the southeast of the prefecture of Chania , in the area of Sfakia , we meet the well-known Frangokastello . Every year , early in the morning of May 18th , the locals claim that the Drosoulites , anthropomorphic figures with arms , go to the abandoned temple of Saint Charalambos . The roots of this legend are found in the sacrifice of chieftain Chatzimichalis Dalianis and his men who fell fighting the Ottomans in 1828 . Some claim that it is a mirror , but most prefer to be left in the
metaphysical charm .

Συνοδεύει τις χαρές αλλά και αποτελεί γιατρικό στις λύπες των ντόπιων και όσων μπορούν να τη νιώσουν . Ο ήχος της δονεί την κρητική ψυχή σε όλο της το βάθος ... Τρίχορδη , αχλαδόσχημη , βαστά τις ρίζες της από τα βυζαντινά χρόνια και παίζεται με δοξάρι , ενώ αποτελείται από το κοίλο μέρος , το « καυκί » ( από ξύλο καρυδιάς , μουριάς ή ασφένταμου ) και το πρόσθιο μέρος , το « καπάκι », από σπάνιο ξύλο (« κατράνι ») ηλικίας έως και μερικών αιώνων !
ΘΡΎΛΟΣ ΤΩΝ ΔΡΟΣΟΎΛΊΤΩΝ
Χτισμένο στα 1370 από τους Ενετούς στο νοτιοανατολικότερο σημείο του νομού Χανίων , στην περιοχή των Σφακίων , συναντάμε το πασίγνωστο Φραγκοκάστελλο . Κάθε χρόνο , νωρίς το πρωί της 18ης Μαΐου , οι ντόπιοι ισχυρίζονται πως βγαίνουν οι Δροσουλίτες , ανθρωπόμορφες φιγούρες με όπλα , που κατευθύνονται προς τον εγκαταλειμμένο ναό του Αγίου Χαράλαμπου . Οι ρίζες του συγκεκριμένου θρύλου εντοπίζονται στη θυσία του οπλαρχηγού Χατζημιχάλη Νταλιάνη και των ανδρών του , που έπεσαν πολεμώντας τους Οθωμανούς το 1828 . Κάποιοι ισχυρίζονται ότι
