Η ιστορία και το σήμερα...
Κατά την άφιξη των Μεγάλων Δυνάμεωντο 1898, όπου διακρίνεται το κτήριο με την επιβλητική του σκάλα.

Το κτήριο είναι του 15ου αιώνα, μνημείο ουσιαστικά της όψιμης βενετοκρατίας, με μακραίωνη ιστορία, εξαιρετική τοποθεσία και σήμα κατατεθέν την εξωτερική βενετσιάνικη σκάλα που χρονολογείται στα 1400( επί της Κουντουριώτη) αλλά και τις εξίσου μοναδικές εσωτερικές σκάλες που χρονολογούνται στα τέλη του 1770, ενώ έχουν διατηρηθεί αυτούσιες. Η ιστορία του χάνεται σε βάθος χρόνου. Οι παλιότερες γνωστές αναφορές μιλάνε για μια διακεκριμένη οικογένεια τουρκοκρητικών, τους Σουφταζαδέ, στους οποίους άνηκε το κτήριο, ενώ μετά πέρασε στην ιδιοκτησία του επιχειρηματία Αντωνακάκου. Ο τελευταίος, το 1931, δημιούργησε εδώ ένα από τα πρώτα ξενοδοχεία της πόλης, το « Μινέρβα », που λειτούργησε μέχρι τη δεκαετία του 1970, ενώ μετά έγινε κατοικία της κόρης του, από την οποία πέρασε στον Όμιλο και δημιουργήθηκε το Scala de Faro. Όλες αυτές τις φάσεις θέλησαν να αποδώσουν και στο design και δημιούργησαν ουσιαστικά layers of history, ενώ εκτός από τις σκάλες έχουν διατηρηθεί αυτούσια τα ταβάνια και οι πόρτες. O 1os όροφος, ο Pianno Nobile, είναι βασισμένος στο σύστημα των Ενετών, ο 2ος, ο Οντάς, επηρεασμένος από τις προσθήκες των Σουφταζαδέ με πιο γεωμετρικά σχέδια, και στον 3ο, το Δώμα, έχουν διατηρηθεί οι προσθήκες που είχε κάνει τη δεκαετία του’ 30 ο Αντωνακάκης, όπως άλλωστε διαφορετικές αναφορές στους ορόφους του είχε και το παλιό κτήριο. Όλα αυτά έχουν δέσει με μια ενιαία σύγχρονη αρχιτεκτονική γλώσσα, κρατάνε στοιχεία, τα μεταμορφώνουν και προκύπτει ένα καινούριο αποτέλεσμα σε αναφορά με το παλιό. Η οργάνωση επίσης των ορόφων έγινε ώστε τα δωμάτια-εκτός του 1ου ορόφου- να μπορούν να συνενωθούν μεταξύ τους, οπότε έχουν και μια κοινή σχεδιαστική λογική, δίνοντας ένα πολυμορφικό αποτέλεσμα! Και όλα αυτά σε άψογη αρμονία με τη σύγχρονη ματιά, τις μοντέρνες ανέσεις και τις πολυτελείς παροχές. Συνολικά, στεγάζει 9 δωμάτια( δίκλινα & σουίτες), έχει εξαιρετική θέα 180 μοιρών σε όλο το λιμάνι από τον Φάρο και το Γιαλί Τζαμισί μέχρι το Ναυτικό Μουσείο, μοναδικό design, επαγγελματικό και παράλληλα φιλικό service, room service, αυθεντική φιλοξενία αλλά και πρόσβαση σε ΑμεΑ, και όλα αυτά σε ένα κτήριο που κάθε γωνιά του μαρτυρά αιώνες ιστορίας!
THE HISTORY AND TODAY … The building dating back to the 15th century is a memorial of the late Venetian rule with a long history, exceptional location and a trademark outdoor venetian staircase of the 1400’ s( on Kountourioti Str.), but also equally unique interior staircases built around the end of 1770, kept intact. The oldest known references regarding the ownership of the building mention a distinguished family of Turkish-Cretan origin, the Souftazade, while later the ownership passed to businessman Antonakakos. In 1931, he turned it into one of the first hotels in town, Minerva, which remained open until the 1970’ s, when it became the residence of his daughter, before passing on to the Group which created the Scala de Faro. All these phases had to be incorporated into the design, essentially creating different layers of history, except from the staircases, the ceilings and the doors, which have been maintained in their original condition. The 1st floor, Pianno Nobile, is based on the Venetian system, the 2nd, Ontas, is influenced by the additions of Souftazade family including geometric patterns the 3rd, the Doma, showcases the additions made during the‘ 30’ s by Antonakakis. The different references of each floor is a characteristic of the old building as well. All mixed together by a unified modern architectural language, maintaining elements, transforming them creating a new outcome with reference to the old. The organization of the floors-except from the 1st floor- was made so that the rooms can connect, giving a joint design concept, creating multiform result. All these in complete harmony with the modern sight, the modern comforts and the luxurious amenities. Composed of 9 rooms( double rooms & suites) with exceptional 180 degrees view of the Harbour from the lighthouse and the Giali Tzamisi to the Nautical Museum, outstanding design, professional and at the same time friendly service, room service, authentic hospitality, easy access to persons with disabilities, the building showcases in its every corner its century long history.
