ΠΑΡΝΑΣΣΟΣ
Η Αράχωβα, τα άλλα γραφικά χωριά, ο ιερός χώρος των Δελφών, το Χιονο-
δρομικό Κέντρο, όλα «ακουμπούν» πάνω στον κατάφυτο Παρνασσό! Με
υψόμετρο που φτάνει τα 2.457 μ. (κορυφή Λιάκουρα), εκτείνεται στους νομούς
Βοιωτίας, Φθιώτιδας και Φωκίδας και χάνεται στη σφαίρα του θρύλου. Ιερό
βουνό του Απόλλωνα στην αρχαιότητα, υπήρξε και το ελληνικό Αραράτ, αφού
εδώ λέει ο μύθος ότι στάθηκε η κιβωτός του Δευκαλίωνα και της Πύρρας, προ-
γόνων του ελληνικού γένους, μετά τον Κατακλυσμό. Ο Παρνασσός πέρασε
στο ταξιδιωτικό προσκήνιο με την ανακήρυξη του Εθνικού Δρυμού το 1938 και
με την ίδρυση του χιονοδρομικού κέντρου.

MOUNT PARNASSΟS
Arachova, the other scenic villages, the sacred site
of Delphi, the ski centre, everything rests on verdant
Mt. Parnassοs! With its highest peak (Liakoura)
stretching as high as 2.457m, the mountain is lost in
the realm of legends. Sacred mountain of Apollo, it
had been the greek equivalent of Mt. Ararat, since
myth has it that it was here that the ark of Deucal-
ion and Pyrrha, the ancestors of the greek nation,
came to rest after the Great Flood. A National Park
since 1938, Mt. Parnassos has grown to a leading
ski resort following the erection of the ski centre.
