Ο ναός προς τιµήν του Διός, νοτιοανατολικά της Ακρόπολης, άρχισε να χτίζεται τον 6ο
αι. π.Χ. από τον τύραννο Πεισίστρατο, αλλά έµεινε ηµιτελής λόγω πτώσης της τυραννίας.
Ολοκληρώθηκε πολύ αργότερα (124-125 µ.Χ.), στα χρόνια του Ρωµαίου αυτοκράτορα
Αδριανού, και ήταν από τους µεγαλύτερους της εποχής του. Από τους 104 κίονες κορινθιακού
ρυθµού σήµερα σώζονται µόνο 15. Η Πύλη του Αδριανού -µια θριαµβική αψίδαανεγέρθηκε
από τους Αθηναίους το 131-132 µ.Χ., ως ένδειξη ευγνωµοσύνης προς τον

The Temple built in honour of Zeus southeast of the Acropolis, started being constructed
in the 6th century BC by ruler Peisistratus, but remained unfinished due to
the fall of the tyranny. It was completed much later (124-125 AD), during the reign of
the Roman Emperor Adrian and was one of the largest temples in its time. From the
104 columns of Corinthian order only 15 remain today. The Gate of Adrian -a triumphal
arch- was erected by the Athenians during 131-132 AD, as a sign of gratitude to
