It is the central square of Athens and the second biggest in Greece, after
Spianada in Corfu. Back in 1843, King Otto was forced by the people and
the military guard of Athens that had gathered at the square, to concede
a Constitution, after the Revolution of September 3rd. It was named
after the Greek word for Constitution, “Syntagma”. On the upper part
of the square stands majestically the neoclassical building of the Greek
Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
