STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CULTURE CENTER The new architectural
and technological work imposing on Sygrou Avenue, at the Faliron Delta, seems
to be winning the bet of contributing to the promotion of the modern culture of the
country more and more every day. The impressive Stavros Niarchos Foundation
Cultural Center (210.000 sq.m.) with innovative and ecologic design bearing the
signature of the architecture office Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), contains
the infrastructure of the National Library of Greece and the National Opera. Since the
beginning of its operation (June 2016) it has attracted more than 1 million visitors
from people of all ages, seeking to enjoy the green urban resort for their recreation.
A large impressive artificial lake is built-in the Center, daily supplied with desalinated
sea water through an underground channel, fully covering its irrigation needs.
Each month this multipurpose space hosts festivals (Summer Nostos Festival),
concerts, exhibitions, tours, movie projections and educational events for children
and adults. The channel, the track and the outdoor gym gather up young and older
visitors, who exercise, but also use the bikes for rent found within the space. Further-
more, an all-day café-bar-restaurant is slated to open in the entrance of the Agora.
SUMMER HOURS: 06:00-00:00, winter: 06:00-20:00. The park is open from
morning until sunset. When events take place during the afternoon and evening
hours, it is accessible from specific gateways and routes defined by the Center. En-
trance to park: free.
ACCESS
With SNFCC’s small private bus (shuttle bus), which sets off from Syntagma square,
stops at Sygrou-Fix metro station and ends up at the Center.
BY BUS OR COMBINED METRO-BUS
Starting from Syntagma square, lines B2, 550, crossing the Sygrou-Fix metro sta-
tion. Get off at the stop “Onasseio” and head south.
BY TRAM
Starting from Syntagma square get off at the stop “Tzitzifies”’ and head for Kallithea.
